0.148 is out

You can now get both MAME and MESS Windows binaries at mamedev.org. That in itself is a good step forward, although the details of the packaging are a little weird right now. We’ll figure it out UME peeps can get Windows binaries direct from Haze. Note that UME SDL builds are still not officially supported and no binaries are provided, but I know several people have had good success with them.

Choose your own gendventure

Sega Bass Fishing Challenge, the final Atomiswave commercial release and the first 2009 game in MAME, was bought and dumped by usual suspects Surgeville, F.B. More, Sacrilego, gamerfan, CaH4e3, Smitdogg, and The Dumping Union. And here’s the visual evidence…

Happy New Year!

Merry MESSmas!

Here’s an extended runthrough video of the FTA’s 1990 demo “Modulae” on the MESS 0.147u4 Apple IIgs driver as a way of showing off some of the work that’s gone into that in the past year.

Armored Armadillo

Guru and I bought the super-rare Namco Super System 22 game Armadillo Racing back almost a year ago, and we’ve finally gotten it dumped and emulated. Yes, it’s as weird in motion as it looks in these screenshots, but thanks to hap’s previous work on the driver it just dropped in and ran.

Showing off a little

0.147u3 is coming up tomorrow if nothing goes wrong and so here’s a video to show the progress made by myself, hap, and awesome new contributor PKGINGO on Konami’s ParaParaParadise.

More dancing

I’ve fixed the hardware test failures for the Firebeat hardware and that means we can now run all the dumped ParaParaParadise games without hacks. Here’s a few title screens.

Paro Paro Dancing

PKGINGO submitted a dump for Konami’s ParaParaParadise 1st Mix Plus, and better yet included some hints on how to get the game to start up and play. Hopefully his hints can point us in the right direction of getting the driver to be playable. In the meantime, here’s a few screens.

Fair warning: 7zip support in 0.147 is trashing memory

On Mac OS X it’s nice enough to crash right away; on Windows/Linux/BSD it’s affecting god knows what inside of MAME/MESS/UME. You should stick with plain .zip if possible until this has been resolved.
(Also to be clear: I wrote “0.147″ above, but this includes all versions since .7z was added).
